# Disaster recovery

> Recover portable application and development-memory stores without conflating them.

For host loss, rebuild the Compose environment on a verified replacement host, restore application PostgreSQL/artifacts from the latest independent recoverable copy, validate migrations and acceptance checks, and only then plan cutover. Restore Basic Memory separately from its own archive and confirm that it remains isolated.

Provider state is not a recovery source for canonical cognition. Git restores source, migrations, policies, and documentation; secrets require their separately managed recovery path. Do not overwrite the only usable copy during a recovery attempt.
