# Project history

> How the project moved from early experiments to an accepted model-independent cognitive core.

PROJECT B.R.A.I.N. retains historical rationale without treating early
experiments as present requirements.

[S.P.O.C.K.](/reference/glossary#spock) remains a separate, deferred
engineering/orchestration boundary, not the owner of B.R.A.I.N. cognition.
Phase 7 is in progress; its required three-day genuine-use window is not
