# First contact

> A short first session that establishes the right expectations.

Start with a clear fact or preference that is safe to test. State who is teaching it and the context. Then start a genuinely fresh session and ask for recall plus provenance. Finally, correct it and ask what changed.

Expected result: B.R.A.I.N. retrieves the current active record, gives an attributable explanation, and preserves the prior record as superseded. Do not treat a generic provider answer as proof of persistence. See [memory tests](/field-guide/memory-tests).
